Honey Lip Balm Benefits
Honey is a natural anti-inflammatory substance, and if your lips are irritated from cold, dry weather or another skin condition, it can help to soothe the inflammation and heal cracked lips. Another property of honey is that it moisturizes the skin (apply it, let it sit, and rinse it off). And, when you combine it with beeswax, it creates a blend of powerful ingredients that will stay on your lips for quite some time!
Beeswax Benefits for Lips
If you’re going to do a honey treatment for the lips, you can leave it on for 15 or so minutes then rinse it off. However, if you’d like lasting protection that you can reapply throughout the day—and you don’t want to walk around with sticky honey!—beeswax is a fantastic ingredient to add. Beeswax seals in moisture, which is especially wonderful when your lips are already dry and chapped. When you add it to skincare products, it thickens them so they stay on for quite some time. It’s full of nutrients that will nourish your lips, too!
The Best Beeswax Lip Balm Recipe
We’re sure you’re excited to make your own honey and beeswax lip balm, so we’ve put together a recipe to get you started! Keep in mind that this is a starting point, and you can tailor the ingredients and amounts used to fit your needs.
- 2 TBS beeswax (make sure it’s clean and free of debris, or use pellets)
- ½ c of almond oil, sunflower seed oil, grapeseed oil, or almond oil
- 1 TBS shea butter (optional)
- 2-3 tsp Jake’s Bee Co. raw honey (adjust amount to your preferences)
- Essential oil (peppermint, chamomile, rose, and orange blossom are wonderful!)
- Small containers
In a small saucepan, mix the ingredients over medium-low heat until they melt and liquefy. Stir constantly to ensure everything is mixed well.
You can add some tint at this point, and what you use will depend on your preferences. Some people like to cut the tip off their favorite tube of lipstick (or one that’s far too dark but would look great diluted) and melt it in. You can also use mica or mineral eyeshadows. Have fun with it!
While the mixture is still liquefied, pour it into your containers. Let them sit until the balm hardens, then moisturize away!
Buy Beeswax Lip Balm
It might be that you’re just not the DIY type, and that’s okay! In this case, you’ll want to put careful thought into selecting a balm. Start with the ingredients. Many moisturizers on the market contain ingredients that actually dry the lips and that don’t promote healing. For this reason, you’ll want to make sure to look for raw honey, beeswax, and other natural ingredients.
Our signature Jake’s Bee Co. beeswax lip balm is made with only the best ingredients. Our formula includes shea butter, sweet almond oil, sunflower seed oil, peppermint oil, and vitamin E, in addition to beneficial beeswax. You can purchase it in sets of two or five.
